2016 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Bullion Coin

The 2016 Perth Mint Australian Kangaroo is a 1 oz silver bullion coin struck from 99.99% pure silver. Issued as Australian legal tender with a face value of $1, the 2016 release formed the beginning of The Perth Mint’s standard unlimited-mintage Australian Silver Kangaroo bullion program.

The reverse features Dr Stuart Devlin’s classic bounding red kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of sunlight. The design is accompanied by the inscriptions “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO” and “2016 1oz 9999 SILVER”, together with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The coin also incorporates a micro-laser engraved letter “A” within the first “A” of “AUSTRALIAN”, visible only under magnification as an additional authentication feature.

The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” and “1 DOLLAR”.

The Perth Mint recorded a declared mintage of 11,245,615 for the 2016 issue. Combining one troy ounce of high-purity silver with recognised Australian bullion design and an early date in the modern Silver Kangaroo series, it appeals to both bullion buyers and collectors.
