Description

1910 King Edward VII Sydney Mint Gold Sovereign – 22ct Gold

The 1910 King Edward VII Gold Sovereign is a historic British Empire gold coin struck at the Sydney branch of the Royal Mint in Australia. Produced in 22 carat (.9167 fine) gold, this sovereign weighs 7.98 grams and contains approximately 7.322 grams (0.2354 troy ounces) of pure gold. As the final sovereign issued during the reign of King Edward VII, it represents an important transitional piece in British and Australian numismatic history before the introduction of King George V coinage.

The obverse features the uncrowned “Bare Head” portrait of King Edward VII, designed by George William de Saulles. The reverse showcases Benedetto Pistrucci’s renowned St. George and the Dragon design, one of the most celebrated motifs in world coinage. The small “S” mintmark beneath the exergue identifies this coin as a Sydney Mint issue, linking it to Australia’s first Royal Mint branch and its significant contribution to sovereign production during the gold rush era.

The 1910 Sydney Mint Sovereign is highly sought after by collectors and investors for its status as the final-year Edward VII sovereign, recognised gold content, and Australian mint heritage. With a lower mintage than many contemporary London issues, it remains a desirable addition to collections focused on Australian branch mint sovereigns and historic gold coinage.
