1900 Queen Victoria Veiled Head London Mint Gold Sovereign – 22ct Gold

The 1900 Queen Victoria “Veiled Head” Gold Sovereign is a historic British gold coin struck at the Royal Mint in London during the final years of Queen Victoria’s reign. Produced in 22 carat (.9167 fine) gold, this sovereign weighs 7.98 grams and contains approximately 7.322 grams (0.2354 troy ounces) of pure gold. It belongs to the celebrated Veiled Head series (1893–1901), the last sovereign portrait type issued under Queen Victoria.

The obverse features the distinguished “Old Head” or “Veiled Head” portrait of Queen Victoria, designed by Sir Thomas Brock. The Queen is shown wearing a widow’s veil and the Imperial State Crown, reflecting the mature image used during the latter part of her reign. The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St. George and the Dragon design, regarded as one of the most famous motifs in world coinage.

The 1900 London Mint Sovereign was struck just one year before Queen Victoria’s death in 1901, making it one of the final Victorian sovereign issues.
