1869 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign Gold Coin

The 1869 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign is an important piece of Australia’s colonial gold coinage, struck during the reign of Queen Victoria at the Sydney Mint. Featuring the Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria and the distinctive Crowned Shield reverse, this issue forms part of the celebrated Sydney Mint sovereign and half sovereign series.

Unlike later British sovereign issues, Sydney Mint gold coins were produced with a unique Australian design incorporating the inscriptions “SYDNEY MINT” and “AUSTRALIA”.
