The 1928 George V South Africa Mint Gold Sovereign is a historic branch-mint sovereign struck at Pretoria while the facility operated as a branch of The Royal Mint. Produced in 22-carat gold, the coin weighs approximately 7.988 grams and contains around 0.2354 troy ounces of pure gold.

The obverse features the left-facing portrait of King George V designed by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, surrounded by the monarch’s Latin titles. The reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic depiction of St George on horseback slaying the dragon, with the year 1928 below. The small “SA” mintmark on the ground line above the date identifies the coin as a Pretoria, South Africa issue.

A total of 18,235,057 sovereigns were struck at Pretoria in 1928, making it one of the higher-mintage South African sovereign issues of the George V period.
