This 1912 George V Gold Sovereign was struck at the Melbourne branch of The Royal Mint during the early years of King George V’s reign. Produced in traditional 22-carat gold, it combines the historic sovereign format with an identifiable Australian mint origin.

The obverse features Bertram Mackennal’s bare-headed portrait of King George V facing left, surrounded by the Latin royal legend. The reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic depiction of St George slaying the dragon, with the date 1912 below and the distinctive “M” mintmark identifying production at the Melbourne Mint.

Melbourne was one of three Australian branch mints established by The Royal Mint and produced sovereigns from 1872 until 1931.
